A Tisbury man has been banned from driving for three years after he refused to provide a breath sample when suspected of drunk driving.
Michael Salter, 32, of Wyndhams Place, Tisbury, was observed driving erratically by an unmarked Roads Policing officer in Tisbury on April 1 last year. Salter’s white van was seen spinning its wheels and nearly colliding with a wall, while also exceeding the speed limit by driving at approximately 36mph in a 20mph zone.
Following this concerning behaviour, Salter was followed to Wyndhams Place, where officers approached him at his vehicle. A strong smell of alcohol was detected on his breath, prompting officers to request a breath sample. However, Salter refused to comply.
As a result, he was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a sample of breath and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
Appearing at a hearing on Wednesday (01/05), Salter was handed a three-year driving ban, along with a fine of £120 and costs totalling £620.
Roads Policing Officer Luke Hobbs emphasized the gravity of drink driving, labelling it as one of the “fatal five” offences most likely to result in death or serious injury collisions on roads. He urged individuals to refrain from driving if they have consumed alcohol, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing road safety.
