Two men and a woman are in custody following the death of a 61-year-old man in Barnsley on Sunday afternoon.
A man has died following a fatal stabbing in Barnsley, prompting the arrest of three individuals on suspicion of murder. The incident occurred yesterday on Burton Road in Monk Bretton, where South Yorkshire Police received a call at 4.23pm reporting an altercation among a group of men.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to find a man with suspected stab wounds to his chest. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s family has been informed and is being supported by officers, who have requested privacy for the family during this difficult time.
Detectives and officers acted swiftly to identify and apprehend those involved. A 21-year-old man, a 32-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
A number of road closures are in place around the area as police carry out their enquiries and secure evidence. South Yorkshire Police have thanked the public for their cooperation during this time.
Detective Chief Inspector Kemp, who is leading the investigation, stated, “We know our communities will be extremely shaken by the tragic incident this afternoon, and we are continuing to work at pace to ascertain the details. We are aware of footage circulating relating to the incident and I would ask you to remember that at the heart of this investigation is a victim and their loved ones. We urge you not to share this footage widely or speculate on social media about the circumstances of what has happened. Anyone with footage or information as to what has happened is asked to share this with the police and not cause further distress to the victim’s family.”
