Three men have been arrested following the discovery of a suspected chop shop in Yalding, after a Kent Police drone located a stolen Mercedes-Benz hidden from public view.
The high-end C-Class vehicle had been reported stolen during a burglary in London, and officers were alerted on Thursday 10 April that the car’s tracking software indicated it was in the area of Yalding Hill.
A police drone unit was swiftly deployed to the scene, and within just two minutes, the stolen car was located. It had been fitted with false number plates and was parked outside a secluded building, which officers discovered was filled with tools and stripped parts from other vehicles.
Arrests Made at the Scene
While officers were investigating, three men arrived in a van at the site. All three were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and theft of a motor vehicle.
The suspects, aged 26, 38, and 52, are all from London. They have since been released on bail while investigations continue.
Ongoing Investigation
Police say enquiries are ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation. A spokesperson for Kent Police praised the rapid drone deployment, saying:
“The use of drone technology in this case was vital to locating the stolen vehicle quickly and safely. This is an excellent example of how modern tools can aid traditional policing to disrupt criminal activity.”
Anyone with information about the suspected chop shop or vehicle thefts in the area is urged to contact Kent Police on 101 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
