Thames Valley Police have confirmed that post-mortem examinations have been conducted on the three people who tragically died following a fire and structural collapse at Bicester Motion on 15 May 2025.
The victims were identified as firefighters Martyn Sadler and Jennie Logan, and member of the public Dave Chester.
Cause of Death: Multiple Traumatic Injuries
Preliminary post-mortem findings indicate that all three victims died from multiple traumatic injuries, consistent with injuries caused by the collapse of part of a structure during the incident.
Two additional firefighters who were seriously injured in the blaze remain in hospital in stable condition.
Ongoing Investigation: Major Crime Unit and HSE Involved
Assistant Chief Constable Dennis Murray provided an update:
“Our thoughts remain first and foremost with the families, friends and colleagues of Jennie Logan, Martyn Sadler and Dave Chester, as well as the injured firefighters and their loved ones.”
“Our initial investigations suggest that all three sustained injuries in line with those typically caused by the collapse of part of a structure.”
The case is currently being handled as an unexplained death investigation, led by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, in coordination with fire investigators and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
No Further Comment on Post-Mortem Findings
Police have confirmed that no additional information will be released regarding the preliminary post-mortem results at this stage. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the fire, as well as any structural failings that may have contributed to the fatalities.
