Thai authorities are intensifying their crackdown on transnational crime with the launch of a new digital immigration system, aimed at bolstering border security and tackling illicit networks operating within the kingdom.
National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet announced the upcoming implementation of “TM.6 Online,” a digital immigration form system designed to screen travellers in advance. Scheduled to go live in May, the system will link with national security databases to detect and block individuals flagged as security risks before they can enter Thailand.
The move is part of broader efforts to dismantle foreign criminal syndicates, particularly illegal Chinese networks and other groups engaged in drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime.
Thailand has been under increasing international scrutiny after reports surfaced of its use as a hub for scam call centers and other illegal activities. Pol. Gen. Kitrat acknowledged concerns over the potential complicity of some officials and emphasised that authorities are now conducting thorough investigations into these operations to prevent future abuses.
Targeting Illegal Businesses and Financial Crimes
In addition to tightening immigration controls, Thai police are also targeting illegal businesses operated by foreign nationals using Thai nominees as frontmen, particularly in Bangkok. Such practices violate Thai sovereignty and law, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stressed in a recent statement.
The Thai government is coordinating with multiple agencies to formulate a systematic approach to eradicate these operations, reinforcing the country’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
International Cooperation
The crackdown has received international support. The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok pledged full cooperation, promising intelligence sharing and joint efforts to suppress transnational criminal networks.
Pol. Gen. Kitrat said: “We are committed to protecting the integrity of Thailand’s borders and ensuring that foreign criminals cannot use our country as a base for illegal activities. TM.6 Online represents a major step forward in our fight against international crime.

Transnational crime has posed a persistent challenge to Thailand’s law enforcement agencies. In recent years, criminal syndicates have increasingly exploited the country’s strategic location and robust infrastructure to facilitate human trafficking, cyber fraud, and money laundering.
Efforts such as Operation Meacan and partnerships with ASEAN neighbours have already disrupted several high-profile networks, but authorities believe the introduction of TM.6 Online will significantly enhance early detection and deterrence capabilities.
