Police have recovered ten stolen caravans and a horsebox valued at nearly £300,000 in a major cross-county operation targeting rural crime across Sussex and Surrey.
The proactive initiative, led by Sussex Police’s Rural Crime Team and Tactical Enforcement Unit, saw officers execute a warrant at a rural property near Horsham on Thursday, 15 May. Six stolen caravans were discovered and seized at that location.
Later the same day, a second phase of the operation was launched in partnership with Surrey Police in Cranleigh, where officers recovered an additional four caravans and a horsebox — all confirmed as stolen.
Detective Chief Inspector Kay Hutchings of Sussex Police praised the coordinated efforts, stating:
“Proactive action taken earlier this week led to this timely co-ordinated operation. Our teams successfully identified and seized stolen property with a combined value of nearly £300,000. The caravans will now be returned to their rightful owners, some of whom live as far away as Warwickshire and Northumbria.”
The investigation is ongoing, with police continuing efforts to identify those responsible for the thefts.
Anyone with information that could help the enquiry is urged to contact Sussex Police via 101 or submit details online.
