A 15-year-old boy has tragically died following a collision on Bradford Road in Eccleshill, West Yorkshire. The incident, which occurred just before 10:45pm on Friday, 4 April 2025, has shocked the local community and prompted a police investigation.
The Incident
Christopher Dobson was struck by a black Volkswagen Golf GTI as he attempted to cross Bradford Road near the McDonald’s restaurant, heading away from the Five Lane Ends junction. Emergency services responded quickly and rushed the teenager to hospital. Sadly, despite their best efforts, Christopher passed away shortly after midnight on 5 April.
The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and suspected drug-driving. He has since been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Family Tribute
In a moving statement released on 9 April, Christopher’s family said:
“Christopher was a gentle giant, loved by all who knew him. He was the best son, grandson, brother, and nephew you could ask for. Though Christopher’s life was cut short, the love, kindness, and joy he shared with all who knew him will never be forgotten.”
They also thanked emergency services and the community for their “overwhelming support” and requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
Police Investigation
The Major Collision Enquiry Team (MCET) is leading the investigation. Detective Inspector Paul Conroy described the incident as a “very serious collision” and urged anyone with information to come forward:
“We are working to support his parents and are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the black VW Golf or the teenager just before the collision to contact us. We are particularly keen to receive any CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist with our enquiries.”
