A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after a pregnant woman was punched in the stomach and had her phone stolen at East Ham station.
The incident occurred yesterday, prompting an urgent investigation by British Transport Police (BTP).
Officers reviewed CCTV footage of the assault and quickly met with the victim. They were then able to track the stolen phone to a residential address, where the suspect was located and arrested the same day.
The teenager has since been bailed while enquiries continue.
BTP confirmed the arrest in a statement:
“We are committed to making the network a hostile environment for these offenders.”
The condition of the victim has not been disclosed, but it is understood she was offered support following the incident.
Police are encouraging the public to report suspicious behaviour on the transport network.
