A 14-year-old boy has tragically died and his father left seriously injured following a devastating crash on the M6 motorway near Lancaster.
Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway between Junctions 33 and 34, near University Hill, shortly after 12.15pm on Sunday, April 20.
The Peugeot van the boy was travelling in is believed to have left the motorway and crashed into a tree.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the teenager was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His father, a man in his 30s who was driving the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Investigation Underway
Lancashire Police have launched a full investigation and are urging members of the public to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that may help.
Sergeant Martin Wilcock, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of a young man and left another man with serious injuries. My thoughts are with their loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
“We’re working to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle beforehand to please get in touch.
“Dashcam or mobile phone footage, no matter how minor it may seem, could be crucial to our investigation.”
Road Closures and Appeal
Traffic in the area was brought to a standstill for several hours while accident investigators attended the scene. The M6 southbound was closed between the affected junctions, causing significant delays.
