A 16-year-old boy has been charged following the stabbing of another 16-year-old in Bordesley Green on Saturday, 15 February. The charged teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces charges of wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, and attempted robbery. He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the attack and remains in stable condition. Police arrested the suspect on Monday, 17 February, after conducting investigations into the incident.
In the wake of the stabbing, several false reports began circulating online, suggesting that there had been disorder at the hospital where the victim was being treated. Claims of ambulances being raided and images depicting individuals carrying weapons at the hospital were widely shared on social media, sparking fear and confusion.
However, West Midlands Police have categorically denied these allegations. Officers, paramedics, and hospital staff have all confirmed that no such disorder took place. In a statement, the police emphasized that the images being circulated were fake and AI-generated.
"We understand the community’s concerns, but spreading false information only fuels unnecessary panic," a police spokesperson said. "We urge people to rely on verified sources before sharing content online."
UKNIP independently verified the false images using specialized software, confirming that widely shared pictures, including one showing individuals allegedly carrying axes inside the hospital, were AI-generated.
Family members of the victim, along with concerned community members, gathered peacefully at the hospital following the incident, expressing their shock and offering support. Police have praised the community for their cooperation and understanding during this difficult time.
The stabbing has reignited concerns over youth violence in Bordesley Green, with local residents calling for increased safety measures. Authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the police.
Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact West Midlands Police on 101 or via Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
