Two teenage boys have appeared in court after a shocking incident at Westfield Stratford where a seat was hurled over a barrier, risking serious harm to shoppers below.
The boys, aged 14 and 15, stood before Stratford Magistrates’ Court charged with criminal damage that recklessly endangered life. The terrifying incident unfolded on March 1, when furniture was allegedly thrown down multiple floors inside the packed East London shopping centre.
Court documents reveal that the boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused of damaging a £500 seat with reckless disregard for the lives of others.
The youth court hearing, overseen by magistrate Aneeta Prem, was adjourned until May 21 after it emerged that both sets of parents required interpreters. No pleas have yet been entered.
