Teen Arrested After Chaplain Stabbed at Renmore Barracks in County Galway
In a shocking incident on Thursday night at Renmore Barracks in County Galway, Ireland, a teenage boy has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a chaplain. The attack occurred around 10:45 p.m. outside the military facility, leaving the victim, a man in his 50s, with serious injuries.
The chaplain, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly providing pastoral care at the barracks when the incident took place. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and the injured man was rushed to University Hospital Galway, where he is receiving treatment. In a statement, a Gardaí spokesperson said, “We are investigating a stabbing incident that took place at Renmore Barracks, County Galway, on Thursday night. A male in his 50s sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. A male juvenile has been arrested in connection with this incident, and investigations are ongoing.
Local residents have expressed shock and concern over the attack, as Renmore Barracks is a well-known military facility that houses personnel from the Irish Defence Forces.
The Irish Defence Forces have not yet commented on the incident, but they are believed to be cooperating fully with the Gardaí’s investigation. Security at military facilities across the country is being reviewed in the wake of the attack.
