A taxi driver has been charged with rape following the assault of a 29-year-old woman in Wigan. The incident occurred on September 19, 2020, after the victim had been out for drinks and a meal with friends at a pub in the area. Later that night, after spending time at a friend’s house, she ordered a taxi to take her home.
The driver, identified as Mosi, instead of taking the woman home safely, sexually assaulted and raped her while she was in his car.
Mosi was arrested on suspicion of rape in October 2020. During police interviews, he initially responded to questions about the rape by saying, “What rape?” He also claimed that while he usually had a working dashboard camera in his car, it was broken on the night of the incident.
Following an extensive investigation, Mosi was charged with rape on March 31, 2022.
Detective Constable Sally-Anne Skellern of Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan District commented on the case, stating, “Mosi spotted his victim and took advantage of her. She was alone after going out for drinks with her friends and just needed someone to get her home safely. Mosi should have been the person who got her home safely; instead, he raped her in his taxi.
DC Skellern praised the victim’s bravery, saying, “Our thoughts are with the victim as she tries to move forward with her life after this ordeal. We’d like to commend her bravery and persistence in assisting us with our case over the last two years to get Mosi behind bars.”
She added, “Mosi is a sexual predator, and his monstrous actions saw him prey on a vulnerable young woman. It is unspeakable, and I’m glad he is behind bars and the streets are a safer place for women without him.
The police statement emphasized their commitment to public safety, particularly for women and girls in Greater Manchester. DC Skellern stated, “We want all members of our community, especially women and girls, to feel they are safe when going about their daily lives in Greater Manchester, and we are working with partners across Greater Manchester to better achieve this.
