Greater Manchester Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit (GMP CVU), in collaboration with WV Protect, carried out a targeted taxi enforcement operation at Manchester Airport yesterday, resulting in multiple violations being identified.
During the operation, officers conducted over 30 checks on taxis operating at the busy transport hub. Of those inspected, four drivers were issued with compliance notices for various breaches of regulations. One driver had their taxi licence suspended on the spot due to more serious concerns.
A spokesperson for GMP CVU said: “These operations are vital to ensure that passengers using taxi services at Manchester Airport are safe and that all vehicles and drivers are operating to the required legal standards.”
WV Protect, which works to improve passenger safety and vehicle compliance, joined the effort to support the checks, which included assessments of vehicle roadworthiness, licensing documentation, and adherence to local authority taxi regulations.
Authorities say such operations are essential for maintaining public confidence in licensed taxi services and deterring non-compliant or unsafe practices.
The suspended licence and compliance notices will now be followed up by the relevant licensing authorities.
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that further spot checks will be carried out in the future as part of their ongoing efforts to protect the public and uphold standards within the taxi and private hire industry.
