In the early hours of Saturday, September 9, a serious assault in Rock Ferry, Merseyside was met with a rapid and effective response from local police officers, preventing a potentially fatal outcome for the victim. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, which left a 26-year-old man with severe injuries.
The incident unfolded when response officers patrolling the Rock Ferry area heard screams and commotion emanating from the junction of Bebington Road and Birkett Road. Without hesitation, they rushed to the source of the disturbance, discovering a confrontation involving three men and two women. As the officers arrived, the men involved in the altercation dispersed, with one falling to the ground while another was apprehended and arrested. The third male was later taken into custody at a nearby location.
The victim, aged 26, had sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention. Medics noted that his condition would have significantly deteriorated and could have been fatal if it had not been for the swift response of the officers, who provided vital first aid.
A 25-year-old man from Oxton has been arrested on suspicion of Section 47 assault, while a 21-year-old man from Rock Ferry is in custody on suspicion of Section 18 assault. Both individuals will undergo interviews with detectives as the investigation proceeds.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer commented on the incident, describing it as a “particularly vicious assault” that resulted in severe harm to the victim. He emphasised the critical role played by the officers in preventing a tragic outcome and appealed to members of the public for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.
DCI Dyer urged anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses CCTV or doorbell footage of the scene to come forward. Additionally, he expressed a specific interest in speaking to the two women who were present during the incident, as their information could be instrumental in advancing the inquiries.
