A Sussex man who subjected a Kent woman to a prolonged campaign of fear, control, and abuse has been jailed for seven years following a Kent Police investigation.
Andrew Wilson, 29, formerly of Brompton Close, Brighton, was convicted of sexual assault, suffocation, and coercive and controlling behaviour after his victim, from Ashford, reported his appalling crimes. Wilson will also spend an additional two years on licence after completing his prison term and has been issued an indefinite restraining order, prohibiting any contact with the victim.
A Campaign of Abuse
Wilson met his victim in 2023, but what began as a relationship quickly turned into a nightmare of control and violence. His behaviour escalated, causing the victim to become increasingly frightened and isolated.
- Controlling Behaviour: Wilson dictated how the victim dressed, demanded she delete social media contacts, and restricted her interactions.
- Physical and Sexual Abuse: He subjected her to sexual assault, suffocation, and physical intimidation.
- Persistent Harassment: Even after the victim ended the relationship, Wilson continued to harass her, making repeated threats.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The victim bravely reported Wilson’s abuse to Kent Police, leading to his arrest in Brighton on 19 January 2024, with the assistance of Sussex Police. He was charged the following day.
Wilson was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court and sentenced on 12 November 2024.
Justice for the Victim
Detective Constable Kellen Blackwell, who led the investigation, said:
“Wilson is a violent and dangerous offender who preyed upon the vulnerabilities of his victim. It is right that he has been jailed, and the restraining order he has been issued offers further reassurance to his victim upon his release.
“I would like to commend the victim’s bravery in coming forward to report Wilson’s appalling crimes. She has shown huge courage, and I hope that she can now move forward with her life, knowing that her abuser is now behind bars.”
