Tanya Edwards, a 47-year-old resident of Long Ley, Wolverhampton, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence for her involvement in drug dealing activities. The incidents occurred in Hastings town centre over a two-day period in October 2021.
Upon being apprehended, law enforcement officers discovered Class A drugs, a significant sum of money, and a concealed Stanley knife in Edwards’ car. She was subsequently arrested and released on bail, with the condition that she would not enter East Sussex.
However, nearly two weeks later, on October 20, officers observed suspicious drug-related behaviour at an address in St Leonards-on-Sea. Two women seen entering and leaving the premises were detained, leading to a search of the property. During the search, Edwards was caught attempting to ingest wraps of Class A drugs in an effort to conceal them.
In addition to the drug wraps, officers discovered more Class A drugs, mobile phones, and a substantial amount of cash at the location. Further investigation of a nearby hire car, which was traced back to Edwards, revealed additional cash and wraps of Class A drugs.
Edwards was subsequently charged with being involved in the supply of Class A drugs (specifically heroin and crack cocaine) and possession of criminal property. She was then remanded in custody. Following a week-long trial in April 2023, a jury found Edwards guilty on all charges, leading to her seven-year prison sentence.
Julian Stokes, the investigating officer, commended the vigilant officers who seized the dangerous substances and removed another drug dealer from the streets. He reaffirmed the commitment of Sussex Police to safeguarding the public, combating drug-related activities, and maintaining a safe environment within Sussex.
