A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault that took place in Canterbury.
Kent Police were called to St Peter’s Street at around 1:10 am on Saturday, 29 March 2025, following reports of a disturbance involving a group of people. Emergency services attended the scene, and a man in his 60s was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Following an investigation, officers traced the suspect to a residential address in Leatherhead, Surrey. In the early hours of Friday, 4 April, they arrested Billy Brazil, 30, of Chester Road, in connection with the assault.
Mr. Brazil has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 5 April 2025. After his court appearance, he was released on bail.
The suspect is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday, 6 May, to answer the charges.
Kent Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Local residents expressed relief that an arrest had been made, while authorities continue to reassure the community that such violent incidents are taken seriously.
