Stephen Lawrence Murder Suspect Jamie Acourt Nabbed in Spain
Jamie Acourt, 41, wanted in connection to the Stephen Lawrence murder probe, has been arrested by Spanish police in Barcelona. The South London fugitive was caught after leaving the Metropolitan Sagrada Familia Gym this afternoon, reports the National Crime Agency.
Armed Police Snatch Acourt in Barcelona
Spanish officers swooped on Acourt today, acting on a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Metropolitan Police Service. The 41-year-old, linked to large-scale drug supply, is now in custody and faces extradition.
81st Fugitive Caught in Operation Captura
Acourt is the 81st target rounded up out of 96 fugitives named by Operation Captura – the joint effort between the National Crime Agency, Crimestoppers, and Spanish authorities to track down UK criminals abroad.
Extradition Hearing Scheduled for Madrid
Acourt will appear in a Madrid court early next week for an extradition hearing. His arrest follows a Serious and Organised Crime Command investigation launched back in 2016.
The hunt is not over as extradition proceedings now kick off to bring Acourt back to the UK to face justice.
