Southampton Barristers Donate 5k to QA Renal Unit
Portsmouth Hospitals Charity would like to say a huge thank you to College Chambers; a Southampton based barristers, for raising an incredible £5,104.87 for QA’s Renal Department. College Chambers held a fundraising ball at the Norton Park Hotel near Winchester. The ball had a spooky Halloween theme with guests arriving in all manner of fancy dress. There were auctions, games and a surprise flashmob Thriller dance to raise vital funds for the Renal Department and the Rainbow Trust. Dan Nother, a barrister and QA Renal patient says, “Just over two years ago I was hit by Goodpastures or Anti- GBM Disease, a one in a million condition which almost overnight removed much of my kidney function. After a short spell in Southampton General Hospital, I was transferred to QA where I was an inpatient for a month. Most of this was on the Renal Ward but I did spend a week in Intensive Care following a serious chest bleed. The treatment provided in QA, both on the Renal Ward and in Intensive Care was excellent and all of the staff were brilliant and lovely. I am lucky that I have made a better than expected recovery. After a year of haemodialysis then peritoneal dialysis, I recovered enough function to come off dialysis altogether. That was a year ago now and I am now feeling pretty healthy, I run and swim and can work as if nothing has happened. I was touched and pleased that my colleagues decided to nominate the QA Renal Department as one of the charities to benefit from the ball.” Dr Tim Leach, Chief of Renal and Transplantation for Portsmouth Hospitals said, “Our Department is hugely grateful for College Chambers for thinking of us and for raising such a fantastic sum of money. It will go to making a difference to the Renal patients and to research into Renal treatments.” Portsmouth Hospitals Charity aims to support the patients of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust by improving existing facilities and by providing additional equipment, supporting research programmes and innovation in the development of services and education to both patients and staff.
