Deveca Rose,, has been granted conditional bail after making a court appearance where she faced four counts of manslaughter charges in connection with the tragic deaths of her two sets of twin sons in a devastating fire that occurred in December 2021. Additionally, Rose is accused of child abandonment, a charge contrary to the Children and Young Persons Act 1933.
The 29-year-old defendant, dressed in black, appeared before Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday. During the hearing, Rose did not provide any indication of her pleas regarding the charges.
Her four children, Leyton and Logan Hoath, aged three, and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, aged four, tragically lost their lives in a fire that engulfed a property on Collingwood Road, Sutton, at approximately 7 pm on December 16, 2021.
District Judge Sarah Turnock presiding over the case imposed specific conditions on Rose’s bail. The case has been referred to the Old Bailey, where the defendant is scheduled to attend a plea and trial preparation hearing on January 8 of the following year.
During the proceedings, Judge Turnock addressed Rose, emphasising the gravity of the charges she faces, stating, “You are charged with very serious offences, and if you were found guilty of any or all of these offences … it is likely you would go to prison for a significant period.”
Throughout the court appearance, Rose was accompanied by family members. The judge requested her attention on two occasions while delivering her statements.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus bravely entered the mid-terrace house during the intense blaze in December 2021. They successfully rescued the brothers and administered CPR before transferring them to two south London hospitals, where they were tragically pronounced dead.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police acknowledged the profound impact of the devastating incident on the local community. They assured the public that the complex investigation continues, with the full support of partner agencies such as the Crown Prosecution Service and London Fire Brigade.
The spokesperson emphasised the importance of refraining from publishing or sharing any material or comments online that could potentially prejudice future court proceedings.
Following the fire, Dalton Hoath, the father of the young victims, expressed profound grief in a statement to MailOnline, describing the boys as bright, caring, and lovable. He extended gratitude to the emergency services and the local community for their support during the difficult time.
In a heartfelt Facebook post in 2021, the boys’ paternal grandfather, Jason Hoath, mourned their loss and expressed his love for them, stating, “Boys I love you forever. Grandad xxx.”
