Further Arrest in Talbot Green Murder Investigation as Police Appeal for Witnesses
Talbot Green, Thursday 13 March 2025 – Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of Joanne Penney have made a further arrest, bringing the total number arrested in connection with the incident to six.
Joanne Penney, 40, tragically died on Sunday, 9 March, after being shot at a property in Llys Illtyd, Talbot Green. Formal identification was completed this afternoon.
Today, South Wales Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man from St. Mellons, Cardiff, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Previously, four individuals arrested in Leicestershire—two women aged 21 and 39, and two men aged 27 and 68—remain detained after magistrates granted police a warrant of further detention earlier today.
A sixth individual, a 42-year-old man from Talbot Green, was initially arrested on Sunday but has now been released without charge in relation to the murder investigation. He remains on police bail following allegations of assault.
Detective Chief Superintendent Ceri Hughes, leading the investigation, said:
“Detectives are making significant progress, and although today’s arrest marks an important development, our inquiries continue at pace. A dedicated team is working tirelessly to establish exactly what happened and bring those responsible to justice.”
Police have appealed specifically for information regarding two vehicles believed to have travelled from Leicester into South Wales on Sunday, 9 March—a beige Nissan Note (registration BK61 ZDC) and a black Volvo XC40 (registration FD24 PZF).
Detective Hughes urged the public:
“We remain keen to speak with anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of these vehicles around Llys Illtyd and the nearby retail park, particularly between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Sunday.”
