A Sittingbourne man has been charged in connection with a blackmail offence involving an elderly woman in Hawkinge, Folkestone.
Jamie Barrett, 44, of Shortlands Road, was arrested on Wednesday, 13 November, following a report to Kent Police that the woman had been coerced into withdrawing £1,100 from her bank on Tuesday, 12 November.
Barrett was charged on Thursday, 14 November, with making an unwarranted demand for money with menaces. He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court the same day, where he was remanded in custody.
Case Progression
The case has been scheduled to be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 16 December 2024.
A spokesperson for Kent Police commended the swift action taken to apprehend the suspect:
