A brutal acid attack in Bensham, Gateshead has left a local resident fighting to save his eyesight after three assailants ambushed him during a late-night walk.
The shocking incident, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, February 13, has sparked community outrage and prompted an urgent police investigation.

The victim was walking home from Saltwell Road Post Office at approximately 1:30 AM when he was targeted.
As he turned onto Lobley Hill Road and proceeded toward Team Valley Way, three unidentified men confronted him near Newton Street. They sprayed him with a corrosive substance, believed to be ammonia, before attempting to rob him.
Severe Injuries and Medical Response
The victim suffered serious injuries, with doctors particularly concerned about his eyesight.
His granddaughter, who shared details of the horrific assault on social media, revealed that while her grandfather may lose an eye, the family is grateful that he survived.
