The A249 Sheppey Crossing was closed in both directions this afternoon after a car caught fire on the northbound carriageway around 4:30pm.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, and traffic was brought to a halt while crews tackled the blaze on the busy bridge, which connects the Isle of Sheppey to the mainland in Kent.
No Injuries Reported
There have been no reports of injuries, and the fire was brought under control within a short time. Smoke could be seen billowing from the bridge as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and ensure the safety of other motorists.
Road Reopened
According to local reports, the Sheppey Crossing has now reopened in both directions, with traffic beginning to ease. However, drivers are still being advised to expect residual delays in the area.
