A harrowing incident unfolded on Devonport Road in Shepherd’s Bush this morning,(Saturday 20th January 2024 as police officers and a member of the public were rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a man wielding a ‘noxious substance.
The Metropolitan Police officers had been responding to a call at an address on Devonport Road, where they had concerns for the safety of someone inside. In their pursuit to ensure the well-being of the individual, the officers made the difficult decision to forcibly enter the house.
However, as they entered the premises, they were met with an unexpected and dangerous confrontation. The man inside the house unleashed a noxious substance, spraying it not only at the officers but also at another person who was present. Despite being subjected to this hazardous attack, the officers managed to apprehend the assailant, placing him under arrest on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).
The bravery and professionalism displayed by these officers were commendable, as they prioritized the safety of the victim, who had also fallen victim to the substance. All parties involved were promptly transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the police officers and the members of the public are reported to be non-life-threatening, offering a glimmer of relief amidst the distressing situation.
Inspector Sophie Rooney acknowledged the rapid resolution of the incident, stating, “The incident was resolved in just over ten minutes. It’s just one of thousands that we are called to every day in London, and I would like to recognize the quick thinking and professionalism of the officers who attended.
