Haseeb Khalil, a 27-year-old man from Flaxby Road, Sheffield, has been sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison for a series of crimes, including rape. The sentencing took place at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, May 24, 2024.
The incident occurred on November 27, 2023, when officers responded to reports of two men seen with a gun and a knife in Darnall, Sheffield. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered that a robbery had taken place, and a woman had been raped. An immediate investigation was launched, leading to the seizure of an item of Khalil’s clothing from the crime scene.
Further investigations included a search of Khalil’s address on the same day, as well as a review of CCTV footage from the scene. On December 1, 2023, Khalil was charged with multiple offences, including rape, sexual assault, and robbery. His co-accused, Amaad Yaseen, was also charged with robbery.
In addition to the rape charge, Khalil was sentenced for two counts each of robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery, possession of a bladed knife in a public place, and theft from a shop—all of which occurred on the same day as the rape.
Yaseen, 27, of Stainforth Road, Sheffield, received a total sentence of 20 months and four weeks for theft from a shop, possession of a bladed knife in a public place, and failure to surrender to police. His outstanding counts related to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery and two counts of robbery will lie on file.
Detective Constable Gareth Rees expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “Khalil’s shocking crime spree has caused untold misery for his victims. I am pleased to see both him and his co-accused locked up. The nature of Khalil’s crimes, in which he raped and robbed his victim, is truly depraved. He will have almost a decade to reflect on the pain he has caused.”
