Police in Sheffield have launched a comprehensive investigation following a disturbing incident in the heart of the city in the early hours of Saturday, September 9.
Emergency services were summoned at 03:08am to Carver Street/Rockingham Street, where a man in his 20s had been stabbed, and shortly thereafter, a second report emerged that someone had been struck by a car at the same location. The authorities are currently treating both incidents as connected.
The victim of the stabbing was swiftly transported to a hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition, recovering from his injuries. Simultaneously, another man in his 20s was also taken to the hospital, his leg injuries potentially life-changing in nature.
In a significant development, a third individual, also in his 20s, has been apprehended on suspicion of possession of controlled substances with the intent to distribute. He is presently in police custody as the investigation unfolds.
Carver Street and Rockingham Street are currently closed to facilitate the ongoing investigations. Detective Inspector Mark Cockayne, who is leading the inquiry, expressed his understanding of the community’s concerns regarding such acts of violence. He assured the public of an increased police presence in the area to both advance the investigation and provide reassurance.
DI Cockayne urged residents, workers, and visitors to Sheffield city centre to approach the officers on duty if they have any information or concerns related to the incident. Their cooperation is pivotal to the success of the investigation.
