Warwickshire Police have launched an investigation into a series of sheep thefts that have left local farmers concerned and authorities on high alert. The incidents, which occurred between July and August, involved the theft of over 100 sheep from fields in the region.
The first reported theft took place between 12 and 25 July, when 22 lambs, approximately six months old, were stolen from fields between Loxley and Wellesbourne. A second, more significant theft occurred between 9 and 21 August, when 88 ewes and lambs were allegedly taken from fields near Kenilworth.
The Rural Crime Team is actively working with partner organizations to investigate these incidents, with concerns that the stolen sheep may have been illegally slaughtered. The scope of the issue appears to be widening, as reports of missing sheep have also been received from neighbouring police force areas, suggesting a potential broader problem.
Warwickshire Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, particularly if they have noticed suspicious activity in the affected areas during the mentioned dates or unusual vehicle movements. The investigating officer for the case is PC 1248 Taylor, and any information could be crucial in advancing the investigation.
Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact Warwickshire Police, citing Incident 93 of 28 August. Reports can be made online at www.warwickshire.police.uk/report, by phone at 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
Residents living near livestock fields are also advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity to both the farmer and the police, as efforts continue to safeguard the local farming community from further thefts.
