Northumbria Police are urgently seeking witnesses after a severe two-car collision occurred on Sunday at 13.00 BST on the A68 in Bingfield. The collision involved a white Seat and a blue Kia, resulting in critical, life-threatening injuries for two individuals.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident, with both the driver of the Kia, a 69-year-old man, and one of his passengers, a 25-year-old woman, airlifted to the hospital with critical injuries. Additionally, a 58-year-old woman and a four-year-old girl, who were also passengers in the Kia, were taken to the hospital with suspected minor injuries. The 23-year-old male driver of the Seat, suffering from minor injuries, was also transported to the hospital.
The road closure lasted approximately six hours but has since reopened. An investigation into the collision has been initiated, and authorities are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the area to come forward.
Chief Inspector Neil Hall, leading the investigation, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “This is an incredibly serious collision which has left two people in the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, and our thoughts are with them and their family at this time.” He further emphasised the importance of gathering information to comprehend the circumstances surrounding the collision.
While three other individuals, including a young child, sustained injuries, which thankfully appear to be minor, the focus remains on understanding the events leading to the critical injuries of the two individuals.
