An early morning crash involving two vehicles on the M2 in Kent has resulted in a major road closure. The collision, which occurred between a Vauxhall Astra and a Citroën, has prompted an extensive response from emergency services.
Specialist collision scene investigators from Kent Police are currently at the scene, meticulously examining the details of the incident. While the precise circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation, it is understood to be a severe accident involving multiple vehicles.
As a consequence of the collision, the eastbound carriageway of the M2 motorway has been completely closed to traffic between Junction 4 (Hempstead) and Junction 5 (Stockbury).
Kent Police, as well as other emergency services, swiftly responded to the scene to provide assistance and conduct necessary investigations. National Highways Traffic Officers have also been deployed to the area to assist in managing traffic flow and ensuring the safety of motorists.

Diversion Route: For motorists affected by the road closure, a diversion route has been established. Road users are urged to follow the solid circle diversion symbol as indicated on road signs. The designated diversion is as follows:
- Exit the M2 eastbound at the nearest junction.
- At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A229.
- Follow the A229 towards Maidstone until reaching the junction with the M20 J6, then join the M20 coastbound.
- Continue on the M20 coastbound to J7 and exit the M20.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A249 northbound.
- Proceed on the A249 northbound back to the M2 J5 and rejoin the M2 eastbound to continue your journey.
