In the early hours of today, a serious collision unfolded in Liverpool city centre, leaving a man critically injured. The incident involved a white Audi TT that came to the attention of patrols at approximately 01.10 BST
Shortly after being noticed by authorities, the Audi TT collided with a private hire car on The Strand, near its junction with Brunswick Street. The impact resulted in a subsequent collision involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where his condition is described as critical.
The private hire car driver, a man in his 50s, also required treatment for neck injuries. Efforts are underway to locate the driver of the Audi, who fled the scene on foot. A passenger from the Audi was detained at the location.
A 53-year-old woman from Southport has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and is in custody for questioning. The investigation has prompted the closure of The Strand in both directions between James Street and Chapel Street. This closure may affect other areas of the city centre, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
