A chilling discovery has sent shockwaves through Rwanda as police arrested a 34-year-old man in the capital city of Kigali after more than 10 bodies were unearthed buried within the kitchen of his residence. The horrifying revelation came to light through a joint effort of law enforcement and local media reports.
According to authorities, the suspected serial killer had lured his victims from various bars to his rented home situated in the Kicukiro suburb of Kigali. Details emerging from local media outlets suggest that the number of bodies discovered exceeds 10, with sources within the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) anonymously revealing that the count of victims had reached 14.
RIB spokesman Thierry Murangira, while avoiding confirmation of a specific figure, emphasised that “the final number will be determined by forensic investigations.” The arrest of the suspect adds a chilling layer to this disturbing case.
The arrested individual had initially come to the attention of authorities in July, under suspicion of a range of offences, including robbery and rape. However, due to insufficient evidence, he had been granted bail, as reported by local media.
Nonetheless, investigations into his activities persisted, leading to his rearrest on Tuesday. A search of his residence uncovered the grim reality: numerous bodies concealed in a pit he had dug right within his own kitchen.
Shockingly, the suspect confessed to authorities that he had acquired his gruesome knowledge of killing by studying infamous serial killers. In a macabre twist, he admitted to dissolving some of his victims in acid, further underscoring the disturbing nature of his crimes.
A source within RIB stated, “He would study his victims before stalking them and usually went for those that are most likely not to have close family or friends to look out for them.”
Murangira, speaking on behalf of RIB, revealed that the suspect had provided a confession during interrogation, shedding light on the gruesome details of the killings. Preliminary investigations have indicated that the victims comprised both males and females.
“He operated by luring his victims, mostly prostitutes, to his home where he would rob them of their phones and belongings and then strangled them to death and buried them in a hole dug in the kitchen of his rented house,” Murangira added, painting a horrifying picture of the suspect’s modus operandi.
