A second woman has been charged with stalking the family of Madeleine McCann, as part of an ongoing investigation by Leicestershire Police.
Karen Spragg, 60, from Caerau, Cardiff, has been charged with one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress, relating to incidents that allegedly took place between May 3, 2024 and February 21, 2025.
Spragg is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, police have confirmed.
Second Defendant Facing Multiple Charges
On the same day, Julia Wandel, 23, of Lubin, Poland, is set to appear at Leicester Crown Court charged with four counts of stalking involving Kate and Gerry McCann and their teenage children Sean and Amelie.
Wandel is accused of a sustained campaign of harassment, including:
- Attending the McCanns’ home on May 2 and December 7, 2024
- Sending letters, phone calls, voicemails, and WhatsApp messages to Kate and Gerry
- Contacting Sean and Amelie via Instagram between January 3 and December 29, 2024
The alleged stalking spanned from January 3, 2024 to February 15, 2025.
Ongoing Investigation
Leicestershire Police have not released further details on how the two defendants may be connected or whether additional charges are expected. However, the force has confirmed that the investigation into harassment targeting the McCann family is active and ongoing.
Kate and Gerry McCann, whose daughter Madeleine went missing in Portugal in 2007, have been subject to ongoing public attention and speculation, with authorities continuing to appeal for privacy and respect for the family.
