A second teenager has died and two others remain in hospital with life-threatening and life-changing injuries following a serious car crash in Tong, Shropshire late on Friday night (March 14).
According to West Mercia Police, the incident occurred just after 11pm on Offoxey Road, when a silver Audi A1 crashed. Emergency services were called to the scene, but despite the efforts of bystanders and paramedics, an 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other occupants — all 17-year-old boys — were taken to hospital. One of them has since died of his injuries, another remains in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries, and the third is in a stable condition but has sustained life-changing injuries.
Families Request Privacy
The families of those involved have asked for privacy during this devastating time, and the names of the victims have not been publicly released.
Police Appeal for Information
Inspector Steph Arrowsmith of West Mercia Police described the crash as an “incredibly sad incident”, saying:
“First and foremost, our thoughts remain with the family of the young men who have died, and those who are seriously injured. We are asking for the public’s help to understand what happened last night.”
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage of the vehicles involved to come forward.
Other Vehicles May Hold Key Clues
Insp Arrowsmith also revealed that the Audi A1 was seen travelling alongside a red Vauxhall Corsa and a black VW Golf at the time of the incident. While those vehicles were not involved in the collision, police hope this detail will help jog the memory of witnesses.
No Arrests Made
A West Mercia Police spokesperson confirmed that no arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing as officers piece together the circumstances leading up to the fatal crash.
