The search for Kaliyah Coa, an 11-year-old girl who was last seen entering the River Thames, continues into its third day. Police have now shared an image of Kaliyah in a renewed effort to gather information from the public.
Incident Details
Kaliyah was named by the Metropolitan Police on April 1, a day after she was reported missing. The young girl was seen entering the water close to Barge House Causeway, near London City Airport, at around 1:23 pm on Monday, March 31.
At the time of the incident, Kaliyah had been playing during a school inset day. Emergency services arrived at the scene within minutes and launched a large-scale search operation. Despite extensive efforts, the initial search was later scaled down, transitioning into a recovery mission.
Ongoing Recovery Efforts
The Metropolitan Police remain committed to finding Kaliyah. Chief Superintendent Dan Card, local policing commander for northeast London, said:
Our specialist officers are supporting Kaliyah’s family through this deeply upsetting time, and our thoughts go out to all those impacted by what has happened.
We are committed to finding Kaliyah and are working with partners to conduct a thorough search over a wide area – utilising drone technology and boats.
“I’d like to thank the members of the public, our first responding officers, and colleagues from other emergency services, as they responded rapidly to carry out a large-scale search during a highly pressurised and distressing time.”
The police have confirmed that extra officers will remain in the area over the coming days to support the ongoing search and provide reassurance to the community.
