School Child Hit by Car in Newport Driver Escapes without Injury

A car has come off the road and ploughed into a tree in Newport this afternoon (Monday). Fire and ambulance crews were called to Wellington Road just after 3.30pm. Two appliances from Newport were in attendance. It is understood that a child was hit by the car and was later taken to hospitial with injuries. A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service said the driver did not suffer any serious injuries, and was not taken to hospital.
