A man who deliberately drove into a pedestrian in a residential street, breaking the victim’s leg, has been jailed for nearly seven years.
Ashley Sherred, 33, of Southampton Road, Salisbury, was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court today (Friday, 8 August 2025) after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving in relation to two separate incidents.
Sherred was handed a six-year, ten-month prison sentence and disqualified from driving for four years starting from the date of his release.
Deliberate Attack in Bemerton Heath
The court heard that on 10 May 2025, Sherred was seen recklessly driving a blue Ford Fiesta in Pinewood Close, Bemerton Heath, performing wheel spins and handbrake turns.
When a local resident in his 40s came outside to confront Sherred over the disruptive behaviour, Sherred mounted the pavement and intentionally struck him with the vehicle. The victim suffered a broken leg in the attack and was taken to hospital.
Sherred fled the scene but was located and arrested by Wiltshire Police later that day. The Fiesta was recovered the following day.
Second Incident: Police Vehicle Rammed
Sherred was also sentenced for a separate incident on 31 August 2024, when Salisbury City Watch CCTV spotted him dangerously driving a Honda CR-V on Milford Street.
After failing to stop for officers, Sherred led police on a reckless pursuit through Fisherton Street, Bemerton Heath and Wilton, at one point colliding with a fence and driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
The pursuit ended at Dairyhouse Bridge Caravan Site, where Sherred reversed into a police vehicle multiple times, then fled over a barbed wire fence. He was tracked and arrested in nearby shrubbery.
Police Condemn "Violent and Reckless" Actions
"Sherred’s actions in Bemerton Heath left an innocent man with serious injuries. He used his car as a weapon," said Detective Constable Dan Smith of Wiltshire Police South CID.
"In the earlier Salisbury incident, he endangered both the public and police officers, driving recklessly and violently resisting arrest."
"We will not tolerate violence or dangerous driving in Wiltshire."
