Police are hunting for an escaped sex offender Richard Scatchard, a 70-year-old man who has been missing from Minehead since Sunday, Scatchard was jailed in 2000 for jailed for life after admitting a string of offences against women, whom he stupefied with drugs and drink before making obscene videos.
After appealing for help on social media to locate Scatchard, authorities received fresh information that has raised concerns about his potential danger, particularly towards women he forms relationships with.
Detective Chief Inspector Jess Aston expressed the evolving nature of the investigation, stating, “While we remain concerned for Richard’s welfare, we are now more concerned about the danger he may pose to other people, specifically women he forms relationships with.”
As a result of recent inquiries, it has been discovered that Scatchard is now wanted on a recall to prison. The last confirmed sighting of him was at a shop in Watchet on Sunday, with an unconfirmed sighting in Minehead the following day at around 10.00
Law enforcement officers are currently conducting investigations in both the Minehead and Watchet areas in an attempt to locate Scatchard. Authorities are urging anyone who sees him or possesses information regarding his whereabouts to contact them immediately.
Richard Scatchard is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, of average build, with short grey hair. He is believed to be traveling on foot or by electric bicycle.
