Residents living near Olantigh Road in Wye are being advised to keep windows and doors closed as fire crews tackle a large straw bale fire that is producing significant amounts of smoke.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two fire engines were deployed to the scene at around 4:16pm on Monday afternoon, and crews are currently using high-pressure hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control.
The fire involves a large number of straw bales, which continue to burn, producing thick smoke that may pose a risk to those nearby.
Public Safety Advisory
In a statement, fire officials urged those in the area to take precautions:
“Due to the large amount of smoke in the area, we are asking residents to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution. Please share this advice with any friends or relatives who may not have access to the internet.”
There have been no reports of injuries, and fire crews remain on scene working to fully extinguish the fire.
