After more than 31 hours of continuous firefighting, crews have finally extinguished a massive blaze at K Laundry Ltd, a long-standing business in Northwood Road, Ramsgate. The fire, which began early yesterday morning, drew significant attention due to the scale of the emergency response and the historic significance of the affected business.
K Laundry Ltd, known for its commercial laundry and linen services, has been a fixture in the community since 1928. The fire started around 4 AM yesterday, escalating quickly and necessitating the deployment of 12 fire engines at the height of the inferno.
Flames and thick black smoke, which could be seen as far as Deal, prompted widespread concern. Local authorities issued advisories for residents to keep windows and doors closed to avoid the smoke, though these were lifted this morning at 9:30 AM as the situation came under control.
By 11 AM today, fire service operations wound down, and the road closures around Northwood Road were lifted, signalling a return to normalcy. Kent fire and Rescue has confirmed that there were no injuries reported, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A spokesperson for the Kent fire and rescue service provided an update earlier today, stating, “Firefighting operations have now finished at an industrial fire in Northwood Road, Ramsgate. The cause of the fire is not yet known but is being investigated.”
The closure of Northwood Road caused temporary disruptions in the area, but traffic has resumed as normal following the reopening. The community is now focusing on recovery and supporting the affected business, which faces a challenging path ahead in assessing damage and planning for reconstruction.
As investigations continue, the impact of the fire on this nearly century-old business is yet to be fully understood, leaving many in the community anxious for answers and hopeful for a swift recovery.
