A suspected serial shoplifter was arrested in Chatham thanks to the swift action of a passing motorist who assisted police officers during a foot pursuit over the weekend.
The incident occurred during the early evening of Saturday 24 May 2025, when Kent Police were called to reports of a theft at the BP petrol station on Maidstone Road.
One officer chased a suspect on foot along Elm Avenue, while another constable flagged down a nearby driver. The motorist drove the officer to Wyles Road, where they caught up with the suspect and detained him.
The man arrested was later identified as Callum Geary, 29, of London Road, Maidstone.
Multiple Charges Filed
Following his arrest, Mr Geary was charged with eight theft offences at businesses in Chatham and Maidstone, spanning a period from Thursday 3 April to Saturday 24 May 2025.
He was remanded in custody and appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 May.
Kent Police have praised the assistance of the motorist, noting their help was “instrumental” in ensuring a quick arrest.
