A probe has been launched after a fire was deliberately started in the wooded area of Ravenscraig Park, with reports suggesting it was set by two youths wearing balaclavas and riding scooters.
According to eyewitness accounts, the **two individuals — described as “lovely wee bairns” sarcastically by locals — were seen lighting a fire in the park’s woodland area before quickly fleeing the scene.
The incident has sparked concern in the community, as Ravenscraig Park is a popular family destination, often frequented by dog walkers, cyclists, and children.
Emergency Services Informed
Although the fire is believed to have been small and contained, authorities have been alerted, and a formal investigation is now underway to identify those responsible.
A local resident, who witnessed the pair, said:
“They were both on scooters and had balaclavas pulled over their faces. It’s worrying to see that kind of behaviour — setting fires in a public park could have serious consequences.”
Community Safety Concerns
Local councillors have expressed concern over antisocial behaviour in the area, urging parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts and reminding the public that setting fires in public spaces is a criminal offence.
Police and fire officers are expected to visit the site to assess any damage and gather further information.
