Authorities have issued a plea for witnesses to come forward in connection with a tragic incident that unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning in County Durham. A man lost his life in a collision, prompting a thorough investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The pedestrian, a man in his late thirties, was reportedly struck by a car at approximately 01:00 on the A689 New Road between Crook and Howden-le-Wear. The collision, involving a red Mercedes A-Class, transpired just north of the cemetery at Howden-le-Wear. Despite the prompt response of emergency services, the pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the incident, a 24-year-old man has been arrested and is presently in police custody as investigations continue to unfold.
The incident has prompted authorities to make a heartfelt plea to the public to provide any information they may have regarding the incident.
