Kent Police are appealing for witnesses following a reported altercation involving four individuals, believed to have been armed, in Gillingham on the evening of Thursday, April 18, 2024. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM and has led to two arrests so far.
The altercation involved four young men who were reportedly carrying weapons. Descriptions provided by the police detail one man as black, with a large build, approximately 20 years old, dressed in a black tracksuit and black trainers. The second individual is also described as black, slim, around 18 years old, wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a green top, and a black and grey hooded top. The third suspect is white, slim, and in his late teens or early 20s, wearing a black tracksuit with dark-coloured trainers. The fourth is described as white, wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a light-coloured t-shirt, and a balaclava, and also in his late teens or early 20s.
PC Ellen Compton, the investigating officer, has urged the public to come forward with any information. “We understand that there were several members of the public in the area at the time and we would like to talk to anyone with information about the incident,” she stated. PC Compton also reassured the public that the suspects are believed to know each other and pose no risk to the wider community.
On the following day, Friday, April 19, officers arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, both from Gillingham, in connection with the incident. Both remain in custody as inquiries continue.
