Merseyside Police Detectives in Wavertree have released CCTV images of two individuals who may hold crucial information related to a sexual assault and an ensuing altercation that occurred at a local pub on Thursday, September 21.
The incident unfolded at approximately 23.20 BST, with reports indicating that a man allegedly assaulted a woman inside the Brookhouse pub on Smithdown Road. The assailant reportedly pulled the victim’s hair and engaged in inappropriate physical contact.
Shortly thereafter, the victim’s boyfriend confronted the offender regarding his actions, which resulted in the boyfriend being punched in the face, causing a laceration to his lip. The situation escalated further as security personnel intervened, ultimately leading both parties to return to their respective groups.
As closing time approached, another altercation erupted involving both groups as they were leaving the establishment. The suspects, believed to be responsible for the initial sexual assault and the subsequent altercation, departed the scene in a black Volkswagen Tiguan.
Tragically, one of the victims sustained injuries that necessitated hospital treatment.
Extensive investigations, including the review of CCTV footage and witness statements, have been conducted by local detectives. They have now released CCTV images of two men they believe may have vital information pertinent to their ongoing investigation.
Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher commented on the incident, saying, “This was a dangerous and unprovoked attack involving a woman who was sexually assaulted by an unknown man, and I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as this are rare. This prompted her boyfriend to confront the offender on his behavior where he was then punched in the face, and this continued a short time later into a fight involving five men from both parties.”
Fletcher added, “Please be rest assured that our inquiries continue to find two suspects, as such behavior will not be tolerated.”
Appealing to potential witnesses and the individuals captured in the released CCTV images, Fletcher stated, “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that can help with our investigation to please contact us. I am also appealing to the two men featured in the images, or anyone who recognises them to come forward. We believe they could hold information that could be vital to our continuing inquiries.”
