A police officer was injured after being struck in the face with a bottle during an aggressive incident near Buckingham Palace earlier this month.
The attack occurred at around 6pm on Tuesday, March 18 on Buckingham Palace Road, prompting a swift response from British Transport Police (BTP).
Man Acting Aggressively with Bottle
According to a BTP spokesperson, officers approached a man in his 30s who was reported to be acting aggressively and waving an empty alcohol bottle near the palace.
When officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and asked the man to drop the bottle, he allegedly struck one officer in the arm, causing a visible wound, and then hit another officer in the face, leaving them injured.
Arrest at the Scene
The man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
Appeal for Witnesses
British Transport Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Officers engaged with the man to try and get him to drop the bottle. The man then raised the bottle and hit one officer in the arm, causing a wound, and another officer suffered a wound to the side of their face,” a BTP spokesperson said.
“Anyone with information can contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 2500032656.
