Police Launch Murder Inquiry after Late Night Attack on Isle of Wight
A Man has died after being assaulted in Newport in the early hours on the Isle of Wight The man found in St James’ Street, Newport just before 4am on Sunday, February 14 has died this morning The 49-year-old man from the Isle of Wight who has been named as father Gary Stacey. He sustained serious head injuries after he was attacked in St James Street. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital to be stabilised a was flown to Southampton General Hospital in the early hours on Sunday morning. A close family member, who did not want to be named, said: “Gary was a great, great man, more like a brother to me than a friend. “There was no such thing as a bad situation for him, he turned everything into an absolute positive and always did it with a smile on his face. He lived for his family for his Kids and his friends” “It’s hard to believe he’s gone, but he should be remembered as the fun loving family man he was.” Many people have paid tribute the poplar artist. Tributes have also been paid on Facebook to Mr Stacey “R.I.P Gary Gone too soon, but will see you again some day soldier.” “Sad to say that one of my brothers life has been taken away from us today! RIP you will be missed bro see you when I get there.” “I still can’t believe you’re gone. You’ll always be in our hearts R.I.P Jeff.” Officers continue to investigate the circumstances of his death. Three local men have now been arrested and being questioned on suspicion of murder. Police have since release who of the three without charge. Flowers have been laid and candles lit at the scene of the incident in St James’ Street, Newport.
