Police have launched an investigation following a reported phone theft on Ashley Road, Tottenham (N17) earlier this afternoon.
Officers were called at 3.42pmĀ on Tuesday, 11 March, after receiving a report of a mobile phone being stolen in the area.
Responding promptly, officers attended the scene and spoke with the victim, who provided information to assist with locating the exact location of the offence. However, no arrests have been made at this stage, and the suspect is still being sought.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
āPolice were called at 15:42hrs on Tuesday, 11 March to reports of a phone theft on Ashley Road, N17. Officers attended and spoke with the victim, who assisted officers in identifying the location where the offence took place. There were no arrests. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.ā
The details of the incident ā including whether the theft involved a confrontation or if the phone was snatched ā have not yet been disclosed.
Local residents and business owners have expressed concern over the rise in opportunistic thefts in the area. One witness said, āItās becoming more common around here ā people need to be cautious when using their phones in public.ā
Police are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the theft or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.
