The tragic death of a two-year-old boy following a medical episode at Early Learners Day Nursery on Hawthorne Road is being investigated by police.
The incident occurred at around 12:35 pm on Tuesday, January 21. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the boy was transported to the hospital by paramedics. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Police Statement
In a statement, Merseyside Police said:
“We can confirm enquiries are under way following reports a two-year-old boy suffered a fatal medical episode at a children’s nursery in Bootle. He was sadly pronounced deceased at hospital and his family is being supported.
The police added that the death is currently being treated as unexplained, with ongoing enquiries to determine the full circumstances and cause.
Nursery Closure
The nursery, rated “Good” by Ofsted last year, has announced its closure for the remainder of the week. A message reportedly sent to parents and carers read:
“Dear parents and carers, as you are aware, this afternoon a medical emergency occurred at the nursery. It is with devastating sadness that we have to inform you of a child’s passing.”
The nursery further stated:
“To enable everyone to process today’s tragic events, we have made the decision to close the nursery for the remainder of the week and also to allow us to continue working with relevant agencies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
Community Shocked
The local community has expressed deep sadness and condolences to the boy’s family. Parents and carers have been asked to await further updates from the nursery and authorities.
